In keeping with the goals of the Obama campaign, our primary focus this summer will be on voter registration with an emphasis on reaching young people and the formerly incarcerated, many of whom do not know that they are eligible to vote. We believe that having such an exciting candidate offers us the opportunity to attract a number of new people to the political process. Further, we believe that when Senator Obama is elected president, his tenure will benefit from having as many citizens engaged in the process as possible.
Each week we will stage voter registration drives around at least three of the larger events in the borough (e.g. farmers’ markets, street festivals, concerts). We encourage you to sign up and participate in as many of these events as possible. We also encourage you to organize events of your own and let us know about them. We are in the process of reaching out to churches and other organizations to create a strategy for registering the formerly incarcerated. Next fall we will conduct a comprehensive student voter registration drive at high schools and colleges.
Below are this weeks events:
Come to Fort Greene Park and register your friends and neighbors so they can Vote for Change this fall. We will provide voter registration forms. We will also have some pens and clipboards, but definitely encourage you to bring your own.
